Evidence-based Healthcare  CPD

The module uses 'best' evidence to influence the decisions practitioners make when caring for patients.

The module guides you in the appraisal of research evidence and the application of research findings to your practice and to policy. The goal of the module is to promote safe and effective practice supported by up-to-date evidence, and improve practitioner confidence in appraising and using research evidence.

Eligibility

Entry requirements for BSc Health Sciences (online) programme:

  • 120 Level 1 credit points and 120 Level 2 credit points in healthcare related subjects
Entry requirements for study as a stand-alone module:

  • Current registration with a professional and regulatory body (healthcare)

English Requirements

  • GCSE English Language at Grade C or above
  • IELTS: 6.0

What will I learn?

The module will enable you to:

  • Articulate what is meant and understood by knowledge, science, research, audit and evidence-based healthcare
  • Understand how to identify and apply various types of evidence for practice e.g. research evidence, practitioner preference and patient preference
  • Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of various models of evidence-based practice.  

Teaching and Assessment

Mode of delivery
Teaching methods include online seminars which include interactive applications, online discussions and other opportunities for reflection on how theories are linked to practice.

Assessment
Assessment for the module consists of a single 5000 word essay which should be your own individual work.

Funding

The module is available through local trusts' contract with City University London.
