What will I learn?
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Discuss the contribution of environmental and genetic causes to the development of disease
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of pathological processes
- Critically apply knowledge of clinical tests (including imaging methods); the nature of the information they yield and their limitations
- Demonstrate competence in conducting screening tests
- Provide sound nutritional advice
- Demonstrate a sophisticated grasp of units of measurement and work with accuracy and precision
- Critically apply your understanding of pathology to problems clients experience
- Demonstrate an awareness of some of the implications of imaging procedures.
Assessment and certificates
The content is delivered in several study days that include team-based learning and lectures. You will be granted access to an online learning platform provided by Wiley and paid for by City, University of London.
You are asked to present a short (15 minute) teaching session to the class about a specific, named disorder or disease. The mark awarded for the presentation will be partly determined by your peer group. Peer review will contribute to 20% for the overall mark for this assessment.
This course carries 15 credits at M level.
Eligibility
Non-EEA students can only apply as part of a programme, not as a stand-alone course.
You need to be registered on the Masters degree or be able to demonstrate successful study at degree level.
English requirements
If your first language is not English, one of the following is required:
- A first degree from a UK university
- A first degree from an overseas institution recognised by City, University of London as providing adequate evidence of proficiency in the English language, for example, from institutions from Australia, Canada or the United States of America.
- International English Language Test Service (IELTS) a score of 7.0 is required with no subtest below 7.0
- Pearson Test of English (Academic) score 72 required
- TOEFL 100 overall with 24 in Writing, 20 in Listening, 19 Reading and 20 Speaking
- Other evidence of proficiency in the English language, which satisfies the board of studies concerned, including registration with your professional regulator.
