The schedule of payments for your annual tuition fees depends on whether you have a loan that covers your fees or if you will be paying the fees yourself.
If you have a student loan
If you have a UK Government loan from Student Finance England, not only will the amount you have to pay yourself be reduced (or removed completely) but the process can be simpler.
For undergraduates, if your loan covers the full year's tuition fees you will not need to pay anything to us - Student Finance England will pay City directly.
For postgraduates (master's or doctorate) you will need to email our team at email@example.com with a copy of your loan summary once agreed. Postgraduate loans from Student Finance England are paid to you in three instalments. When we receive your loan summary we will create a formal agreement with you about payment dates, in line with those instalments.
If your loan does not cover your tuition fees in full, you will need to pay half of the remaining fees at registration and the other half by the end of January (or three months after registration, if your course doesn't start in August, September or October).
If you're paying for tuition fees yourself
If you're able to pay your first-year fees in full at registration (and at re-registration for following years) we'd advise you do so, as this can help to avoid possible financial problems later in the academic year. However you also have the option to pay by instalments.
If you'll be paying your annual tuition fees yourself, you can do this in two equal instalments.
The exact schedule for this depends on whether or not your course will run in line with the academic year - which means registration in August, September or October.
- In line with the academic year: you'll pay the first instalment of your annual tuition fee when completing registration (or re-registration in the following years of your course) with the second instalment being due at the end of January
- Not in line with the academic year (starting outside of August, September or October): you'll need to pay the first instalment before your course starts, with the second instalment due on the last working day of the third completed month after registration.
There is no administrative charge for paying by instalment and City does not offer a discount for payment in full at registration.
Deposits paid before registering for a course are deducted from the first instalment. City's scholarships are generally deducted from the second instalment.
