Every year, the Employer Engagement team run several extra-curricular events that aim to develop the employability skills of our students, support their career planning and ultimately contribute to their successful transition into the graduate labour market.
We are keen to partner with employers from across all sectors to develop sustainable and long-lasting strategic partnerships.

City’s Annual Careers Fair
- Date: Wednesday, 11 October 2023
- Time: 11:00 - 4:30
- Location: The Great Hall at City, University of London
- Cost: Free
Our autumn careers fair aims to connect large, multinational organisations with students across all schools and programmes at City, University of London.
Please note this is a cross sector/cross-school event so recruiters should expect to meet students from all six of City’s schools.
If you are keen to meet students from programmes, please let us know via the booking form, and our marketing team will ensure the organisation and opportunities are advertised directly to those students.
Over 70% of City students identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME).
The Fair provides direct access to our talented students, who will also undergo a preparation session in advance and we encourage diverse representation from participating organisations as well as openly discussing company initiatives that support diverse staff.

Employability Skills Programme

Our Employability Skills Programme (ESP) is our flagship series that depicts the journey of the graduate recruitment process.
Hosted by Times Top 100 employers and often attended by 100-150 students, each session aims to equip students for success in the various stages of the graduate recruitment and selection process.
All sessions will be delivered onsite and sessions will be recorded and held in a central repository for students to view back.

Sector-Specific Panels

Hosted by a dedicated Careers Consultant, our sector-specific panels aim to connect students directly to industry professionals and act to enable our students to learn more about their roles, industry, career successes and any barriers that were faced and overcome to ensure success.
Please note these panels are open to industry professionals and not graduate recruiters.
Unless directed otherwise, our panel sessions are scheduled from 6-8pm and usually follow the below schedule:

Meet the Professional

Meet the Professional series aims to provide a private space for students and industry professionals to discuss the intricacies of their day-to-day roles within the business in a short, 15 minute slot, pre-booked by the student.
At a Meet the Professional appointment, students will be able to directly connect with industry figures to learn more about their role, career challenges, career successes and the vital skills needed to succeed in that sector.
By attending a session, we expect students to:
- Have a greater understanding of specific roles within the sector
- Understand career challenges faced by the host and how they were overcome, as well as hearing about career successes
- The vital skills needed to succeed in that sector.

Meet the Recruiter
- Date: Throughout October/February/March
- Location: Online – link generated by the employer host
- Cost: Free for organisations to participate
Our Meet the Recruiter series aims to provide a private space for students and recruiters to discuss opportunities within the business in a short, 10 minute slots, pre-booked by the student.
At a Meet the Recruiter appointment, students will be able to directly connect with recruiters to learn more about opportunities within the business as well as the recruitment and selection process.
Our students will also have the opportunity to find out directly from the company representative what skills are needed to for each of the roles.
Students who book to attend an appointment will view preparation content prior to meeting, ensuring that all parties involved are able to optimise the short and snappy appointments.
By attending a session, we expect students to:
- Have a greater understanding of the skills required to succeed in the recruitment process
- To have visibility of the various roles that sit within the business
- To have clarity on application timelines.

Speed Recruitment
- Date: Throughout early 2024
- Time: 6 - 8:30pm
Our Speed Recruitment events are an opportunity for employers seeking to recruit final year talent into their business. Mirroring speed networking, the events provide businesses the chance to engage directly with students in rotations lasting for 5 minutes. To qualify for a speed recruitment session, businesses must:
- Have live opportunities for final year students
- Be able to provide a live job description that can be shared with student applicants
- Be willing to offer students a tangible outcome if a good impression is made.
As part of Speed Recruitment, Employer Engagement will
- Collect expressions of interests and CVs from students for your roles
- Create candidate packs and share them with you prior to the evening, allowing you to attend with a deeper understanding of who you will be meeting
- Prepare the students for the speed interviews via a specially created preparation session.
The dates and subjects proposed for Speed Recruitment are:
- Finance and Economics: 27 February 2024, 6 - 8:30pm
- Law and Social Sciences: 12 March 2024, 6 - 8:30pm
- Technology: 26 March 2024, 6 - 8:30pm

SME Drop-Ins
- Date: Throughout early 2024
- Time: 2 - 4:30pm
Our SME drop-in sessions aim to connect start-ups and small to medium organisations from different sectors to students across the different Schools and Programmes at City, University of London.
As an SME, it’s an opportunity to:
- Bring visibility to your business and the work that’s done
- Highlight to students how starting their graduate career at an SME can be the start of a fulfilling and successful career
- Meet City’s talented and diverse students and hopefully hire them.
Our proposed dates for our SME events are:
- Thursday 29 February 2024, 2 - 4:30pm
- Thursday 7 March 2024, 2 - 4:30pm
- Thursday 14 March 2024, 2 - 4:30pm

Bespoke end-to-end Recruitment events
We are keen to partner with businesses over a 2 to 3 year period and work together to create bespoke, end-to-end recruitment activities as a means of supporting your immediate graduate recruitment needs.
