Airport Business Management Course overview
You'll be introduced to an array of commercial constraints and learn how to creatively find solutions and opportunities in order to ensure the success of the airport entity.
The course includes discussion of both aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenues, return on investment, cost recovery, marketing, forecasting and planning.
The aims of the course are to:
- Critically discuss different management techniques to ensure traffic and financial growth of an airport;
- ensure ability to establish an effective management system, encompassing various focus areas, including safety, security and environment;
- Understand airport economics and the main drivers of aeronautical and nonaeronautical revenue, as well as operational expenditure; and
- Appreciation of Masterplanning through forecasting to ensure availability of necessary capacity.

Timetable
The module is currently scheduled from 23-25 May 2024.
Modules are expected to run from 10:00-16:30 on the first two days and from 09:00-12:00 on the final day (UK time), subject to confirmation.

Content Outline
- Introduction of essential management systems related to the airport entity, including value-based management, financial control and industry benchmarking;
- Identification of commercial restraints to achieve growth potential;
- Overview of the pillars of airport revenues, including development of revenue assumptions, forecasting and diversification;
- Airport Economics – non-aeronautical/commercial vs. aeronautical income;
- Define of tariffs to balance aeronautical revenue; and
- Strategies to grow non-aeronautical revenue, including retail and property revenue.
Assessment and certificates
There is no assessment or coursework with this CPD. Students will be asked to submit a reflective journal about the topics covered and will receive a certificate of participation. No credits are awarded.
