Mathematics is the language of today’s global economy. City’s Department of Mathematics offers inspiring degree programmes, delivered in a supportive, energised environment by experienced, knowledgeable academic staff who are active researchers.
Our undergraduate Mathematics courses are carried out in conjunction with a range of other departments, producing a truly interdisciplinary approach to the subject. We give our students options to develop their knowledge in areas such as finance, economics, data science and actuarial science.
Virtually all industries need graduates with mathematical skills – from finance and business, to research and retail – and we have strong links to industry and an enviable record for graduate employability. City's central location provides excellent work experience opportunities.
The nearby City of London financial district is home to leading international banks, insurance houses, corporate finance, accounting consultancies and the Stock Exchange. To boost employability we offer an optional one-year placement, and past students have secured placements in organisations such as Axa, Microsoft, Toyota and Disney.
The department is a supporter of the Good Practice Scheme of the London Mathematical Society, which is committed to working towards addressing the under-representation of women in mathematics in higher education.
