Alumni benefits

As well as being able to get involved in events, volunteering opportunities and the alumni community, we are pleased to offer you a range of alumni benefits.

Alumni Card

The Alumni Card for previous graduates of City and has a range of benefits

It gives you access to:

  • Northampton Square Library
  • Bayes Learning Resource Centre
  • CitySport, which will allow you to have a discounted membership.

The Alumni Card expires after three years’ time from the date of issue.

You can apply for an alumni card by completing this form.

If you have lost your card within the three-year issue period, you can request a new one by also completing the form above.

Career support

CareersHub and Unitemps

As a graduate of City University, you are not only entitled to all the resources that the alumni network can offer. After you graduate and for up to three years, you also continue to have access to the Careers Service. This includes access to the CareersHub.

You can also look for temporary or part-time opportunities via Unitemps.

Mentoring

City's Professional Mentoring Scheme offers professionals the opportunity to inspire and guide our students through a six or nine month one-to-one mentoring relationship.

Since 2002 the scheme has successfully delivered mentoring relationships between professionals and City students. On average, the scheme enables 400 mentoring pairs per annum.

71% of our mentors are City alumni, 13% City staff, and 16% are referred to the scheme or recruited by staff. We engage a diverse range of professionals who volunteer their time to mentor our 2nd and 3rd year undergraduates and Masters students.

Alumni are welcome to join this hugely rewarding scheme. For more information and to apply, please visit our mentoring pages.

Recruit from City

Are you looking for a new member of staff? Why not make it a City student or graduate? City’s online vacancy portal is free of charge and a convenient way to advertise graduate vacancies, placements, internships, part-time or casual work. All City students are registered to use this service. You can also reach recent graduates, up to three years after graduation.

For more information on how to use this service, please contact our careers team or sign up for free via CareersHub.

Alternatively, we can post a job ad for you to over 9,000 graduates in our LinkedIn groups. Please contact alumnicomms@city.ac.uk with the details of the vacancy, including a link to apply.

Business Services

As a City graduate you can access a comprehensive range of business services from academic expertise, continuing professional development and state-of-the-art technical facilities to consultancy, technology licensing and contract research.

If you are planning to start your own business, City supports our entrepreneurial students and alumni to develop and launch their business ideas.

City Sight

As a City alumnus you are entitled to free sight tests and a discount of up to 20% off a complete pair of glasses (frames and lenses) at City Sight.

CitySport

CitySport is our sport and fitness centre featuring state-of-the-art gym equipment. With an alumni card, alumni can benefit from a discounted membership of £32 per month.

CitySport features:

  • 120 new fitness stations delivered in partnership with Matrix Fitness
  • A free weight area
  • Olympic-sized courts for a variety of team, solo and class sports.

Email for life

If you graduated from 2013 onwards you can keep your @city.ac.uk email address for life.

If you have forgotten the password for your City email account, please contact the IT Service Desk on +44 (0)20 7040 8181 or by completing the online form. You will need to select the "Log an Issue (as a guest)" option in order to contact IT.

Please note that as part of improving City data and system security, you are now required to update your University Email for Life account password at least once every 12 months. If a password hasn’t been updated during this period, IT Services will lock the account until the account holder takes action.

To reset a forgotten password or unlock your account, you can register with the Password Self Service. For additional support, please contact the IT Service Desk on +44 (0)20 7040 8181.

Graduate Loyalty Discount

We offer City graduates a graduate loyalty discount of at least 10% on tuition fees when applying for one of over 150 postgraduate courses.

The Graduate Loyalty Discount can not be applied to our Short courses, Professional development courses or City Health courses. The discount also does not apply to postgraduate pre-registration courses in the School of Health & Psychological Sciences.

Our graduate loyalty discount is an institution-wide initiative that extends across all Schools.

If you are applying for a postgraduate research degree you will benefit from a discount of 10% on the full cost of your tuition fees.

The City Law School, the School of Communication & Creativity, the School of Policy & Global Affairs, the School of Health & Psychological Sciences and the School of Science & Technology offer the Graduate Loyalty Discount in addition to any scholarship students may benefit from (subject to the terms and conditions of specific schemes).

For Bayes Business School, we regret that this scheme cannot be used in conjunction with any other sponsorship, scholarship or bursary scheme or by students financed by their employer.

Please note that the discount can only be applied to tuition fees and cannot be used to cover any other course-related expenses (e.g. residential costs, materials or membership fees).

Eligibility

To be eligible for the graduate loyalty discount you must have successfully completed one of the following at City:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Postgraduate degree
  • A period of study as a study abroad Student or Erasmus+ exchange student

Please note the discount does not apply to students who have completed any of our short courses.

How to apply

To apply you will need to be accepted into your intended course of study and to meet all the normal academic admissions criteria for the relevant course at City, University of London.

At the point of application you are required to inform the Admissions Office that you are a City graduate. No additional documentation should be required. If you are accepted into the course and successfully enrol, your invoice for fees will then be reduced by the appropriate amount.

Library access and electronic resources

With an alumni card, you can access:

  • Northampton Square Library
  • Business Library
  • Law Library.

If you would like to borrow any books you will need to complete the alumni library registration online form.

Please note there is a charge for this service.

Senate House Library

Alumni who graduated from 2016 onwards have access to the Library at Senate House for private study and non-commercial research only. You must pay the alumni membership rate and will need to show a valid alumni card when applying to the Library for the first time. You will also be asked to provide your degree certificate on your first visit.

Electronic resources

Remote electronic resources

For access to:

  • Business Source Premier (Alumni Edition)
  • Emerald
  • JSTOR
  • Refworks - Only available to alumni who graduated from 2013 onwards.

Please log in to access the electronic resources. If you do not have log in details, then please register first. After you log in, please go to the Library Services page, where you will find the designated links for each electronic resource.

If you are a Bayes alumnus, please follow the instructions on the Bayes Alumni website.

Please note it may take up to 48 hours to process a new sign-up request.

Electronic resources on campus

You may use the 'walk-in' service, to access specific electronic databases at the Northampton Square Library and the Business Library. This access is currently only available on one computer at each site. If you have any queries please email e-access@city.ac.uk.

Please note that if you would like to access the electronic resources at the Business Library you need to book the computer in advance by calling +44 (0)207 040 8787.

Computers in the library

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer access to computers in the library. However, you can access the Wi-Fi connection as a guest, on your own device, by requesting a password from the Library Help Desk.

City research online

Research produced by City’s academics and research students, including journal articles, conference papers, books and doctoral theses, are available online at openaccess.city.ac.uk.

University merchandise

Official university merchandise is available to purchase from the City Students' Union shop.

Graduation souvenirs

Campus Clothing will be selling a range of personalised t-shirts and hoodies, printed with your name and those of your fellow classmates on the back. To order your merchandise, please visit the Campus Clothing website.

Official City, University of London graduation jewellery will be on offer from Annotated Studios. Individually crafted, each piece is designed to be as personal as your time at City, blending your individual accomplishment with the history of your institution.
