World-leading research and education in the heart of one of the world’s most creative and culturally-rich capital cities.
Pioneering teaching for more than forty years
The international creative economy has rapidly emerged as a global force for economic and social development.
At City, we have been conducting world-leading research and teaching in Culture and the Creative Industries for more than forty years: The MA in Culture, Policy and Management is the longest established programme of its kind in the UK, and boasts an extensive network of alumni in prestigious cultural management positions around the world.
Our ground-breaking new MA Global Creative Industries allows you to gain a strong knowledge of the creative industries and offers a fully global perspective of how these operate at different scales. Explore the organisations, issues and tensions that emerge from cultural industries at local, regional and world levels.
This course opens the door to careers in government administration, international organisations, trade bodies and development agencies, as well as leading cultural institutions.
For those seeking further study, our MPhil/PhD Culture and Creative Industries offers students the chance to develop their research agenda and transferable skills working with world leading experts in cultural policy and creative industries.
World-class research with real-word impact
The Centre for Culture and the Creative Industries undertakes world-leading research into many aspects of the international creative economy and regularly advises organisations such as UNESCO, the British Council, and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport on matters of cultural policy.
We have particular specialisms in cultural labour and work, globalisation, identity, digital media and new technologies, amongst other areas.
We have produced a wide range of books, reports and articles, and our academics work for a variety of editorial boards and journals. We have a large and eclectic community of doctoral students, and this very international cohort provides a truly global outlook, as well as providing a vibrant and stimulating environment for study.

From orchestras and the fine art market, to marketing and management, most of our graduates are employed in cultural roles.
They have found work with organisations including the Royal Opera House and the Barbican Centre in London. Other graduates take up opportunities further afield, including at UNESCO (Paris), Ullens Contemporary Art Centre (Beijing), and Dongdaemun Design Plaza (South Korea).
