Project Management in Aviation Course overview
This course examines general features of projects, project organizations, role and qualifications of project managers, five phases of project life-cycle and ten knowledge areas and their processes of project management based on PMI’s approach.
In essence, it ensures to critically analyse, synthesize all these knowledge, methodologies and processes to create and manage effective project plans leading to obtain customized outcomes aligned to strategic targets of companies in the aviation industry.
The course exemplifies selected project samples from the aviation industry to highlight effective project management in aviation environment.

Aviation professionals such as pilots, licensed aircraft engineers, Air traffic controllers, airport managers, ground services staff) already or soon to be involved in project management roles.

- Critically analyse interdependencies among the project phases and maintain execution of project in accordance with project management plan by satisfying project constraints of scope, schedule, cost without compromising quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Critically analyse project metrics and status reports to determine existing and future status of the project and apply necessary tools and techniques to keep the project on-track.
- Create an approach to contribute to foster organisational project management culture, which is considered an important factor to stay competitive through successful strategic projects in today’s aviation business environment.

Teaching
The duration of the course is three days from 9.00 am to 5 pm each day accumulating total of 17.5 hours. The content of the course is as follows:

Day 3
- Monitoring and Controlling Project Work
- Closing the Project
- Examples and case studies from aviation industry projects
- Case study 1: Creating : Project charter
- Case study 2: Creating Scope and Schedule management plans
- Case study 3: Creating project budget and cost management plan
- Case study 4. Creating your own project management plan.
Case studies will be selected from the following samples:
- New Aircraft selection project
- New aircraft entry into service project
- Aircraft cabin reconfiguration project
- New MRO establishment project
- New airline route/service implementation project
- Air Traffic Management Innovations project
- Blockchain for Ticketing and Baggage Tracking
- Smart Airport Infrastructure project.
Any other project that students want to work through selected from aviation industry.
Assessment
There is no assessment or coursework with this CPD. Students will be asked to submit a reflective journal about the topics covered and will receive a certificate of participation.
Eligibility
There is no pre-requirement for this course other than a general knowledge and understanding of aviation industry. There are reading resource list that will help you to prepare for the course.
English requirements
For those students whose first language is not English the following qualification is also required:
