About
In a time of rapid social and political change we help students develop the knowledge and skills to engage with the key challenges and issues that are shaping policy formation and public debate.
Our students receive a top-class education that is consistently informed by cutting-edge research and delivered by internationally recognised leaders in their fields. As a result, we achieve consistently high results for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey.
Through the study of global political systems we enable students to draw connections between economic, political and social processes driving major change on an international scale.
We seek to bring understanding to the history and politics behind real-life issues such as financial crises, security, migration and climate change.
At postgraduate level students can focus their studies on areas of specific interest, including diplomacy, foreign policy and human rights.
From summer 2022, the Department forms part of City’s new School of Policy & Global Affairs.
This will provide new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with the Department of Economics, and build on our existing work with the Department of Sociology and Criminology.
Study
The Department offers a range of courses at undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research degree level.
