We’ve brought the learning straight to your door with our newly adapted online creative writing courses. Whether you’re interested in writing children’s books, novels, short stories, newspaper articles or blogs, or just thinking of taking that first step towards creative writing, our online courses are a fun and engaging way to help you to achieve your goals.
Live online classes, led by professional writers
Our online writing courses are taught live to foster individual participation. You’ll be encouraged to share your work with the group for feedback and receive individual support from your tutor.
Join a small group of writers online
You’ll become part of a small and committed writing group who can support you on your journey. Keeping the group size small gives you the chance to get to know your classmates and enables us to tailor the learning around your personal interests and goals.
Easy to use online learning tools
It’s easy take an online writing course with us. We use platforms like Zoom and Microsoft teams for our live sessions and you’ll also have access to all course materials through our online learning environment, Moodle.
When you join one of our short writing courses, you join a wider community of students past and present. Students successes are championed in regular newsletters and termly writing competitions culminating in our City Writes events.
Variety and progression
City Short Courses offer online creative writing programmes that cater for both new and seasoned writers. Most of our classes are taught over 10 weeks but we also offer some one day masterclasses, as well as our flagship writing programme, The Novel Studio, taught over one year.
Students on our writing short courses have gone on to further study at MA and PhD level. They have also published short stories, won writing competitions, signed with literary agents and had their books published.
