Please note this is a course for freelancers, bloggers and content writers. It is not suitable for those looking to publish short stories, novels or poetry.
This course is equally not suitable for those wishing to improve their English.
Who is it for?
City’s Journalism Skills short course is aimed at those interested in writing as a journalist. Led by an experienced journalist and delivered over 8 weekly lessons, the course focuses on the skills required to help you get journalism style articles published in magazines, newspapers and online (blogs and digital content) from developing an initial idea right through to publication.

Timetable
Taught in the autumn and spring terms over 8 weekly two-hour classes.
City Short Courses follow the academic year, delivering courses over three terms. These include:

- Spring - January
- Summer - April

What will I learn?
Over the course of 8 weekly evening classes on the Journalism Skills short course, you will learn:
- To research and recognise a good story to turn into a feature or comment
- To construct well-written articles
- To integrate quotes or case studies
- To identify a suitable outlet for your work
- How to get work
- How the media works.
Assessment and certificates
Informal assessment will take place through group discussion, class room activities, and questions and answers sessions as guided by your tutor.
Students who attend 70% of the classes will receive a Certificate of completion at the end of the course.
Eligibility
No prior knowledge or experience required.
English requirements
Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English.
