Graduates had the honour of having their awards announced in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman Dubai Airports, President Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group.

In a milestone celebration held in Dubai on Monday 9 May, 83 graduates from the Bayes Executive MBA, the Master of Laws (LLM), and the MSc Aviation Management programmes had their degree awards announced during City, University of London’s 11th graduation ceremony held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai International Financial Centre.

The annual event, hosted at the Ritz-Carlton in the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), was the first graduation ceremony since 2019, with graduates drawn from the classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Among the more than 300 guests who joined Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein, President of City, University of London at the ceremony were: His Excellency Essa Kazim, Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre; Mr Arif Amiri, CEO of the DIFC; Dr Sionade Robinson, Vice-President (Enterprise, Engagement & Employability); Professor Andre Spicer, Dean, Bayes Business School; Professor Steve Thomas, Associate Dean, MBA Programmes; and Professor Richard Curran, Head of Aviation Management.

With an average age of 35, the diverse cohorts of graduates are full-time professionals working in various sectors from medicine and marketing to finance, aviation, banking and hospitality.

Addressing graduates at the ceremony, Professor Sir Anthony said:

Wherever you choose to work or travel, you are never far from your fellow alumni: a friendly face, a helping hand and a powerful professional network that can help give you an edge.  Know how proud we are of you. Dr Kevin Dunseath, Regional Director, MENA and Head of City, University of London’s Dubai Centre, said:

“Today we are celebrating the achievements of three classes of graduating students from 2020, 2021 and 2022.  Your achievements are all the more significant because of the courage and resilience you demonstrated in achieving your goals, despite the challenges presented by the global public health situation.  We wish you happiness and success in your future careers and look forward to welcoming you into our worldwide alumni community.”

Professor Andre Spicer, Dean, Bayes Business School, who represented the Deans of The City Law School and the School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering at the ceremony, said:

“As Dean of Bayes Business School, I would like to warmly congratulate all our graduates who are here today. I am particularly delighted to see three MBA cohorts graduate. It is also a great pleasure to congratulate those of you who are graduating from the City Law School and our School of Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science.

"Each one of you has achieved something special. The graduates have showed a unique sense of perseverance in studying for an advanced degree, which is a great achievement in normal times. During a global pandemic, this is a heroic feat!”

City, University of London’s Executive MBA in Dubai and its four MSc Aviation Management programmes are delivered at the Dubai International Financial Centre, by world-class academics who travel from City’s London campus.
