Suggested MSc projects
- Theory of mind development and its relation to language and communication
Part of bigger project. Research funded by the ESRC (Deafness, cognition and language research centre, UCL) is looking at 3 aspects:
- precursors to theory of mind (ToM) in normal developing deaf and hearing children. E.g. child-parent interaction, shared attention, language development
- development of alternative testing methods for ToM in deaf late language learners
- development of intervention research based in classrooms
- Sign language processing and models of language segmentation
Part of bigger project. Research funded by the ESRC (City, University of London) is looking at how sign language is processed and the role of knowledge and phonotactic rules.
Could involve a student with an interest in speech comprehension and in how modality affects language processing
Previously supervised MSc projects
Gary has supervised a number of projects on cochlear implants, Speech and Language Therapy and deaf children, sign language development, and autism.
