Penny was called to the Bar in 2006 and practised on the North Eastern Circuit. Following her common law pupillage she specialised in criminal and regulatory Law. She was regularly instructed in cases with vulnerable witnesses and defendants; in particular cases involving sexual offences and domestic violence. She prosecuted and defended in multi-handed cases involving violent offences, offences of fraud and drug related offences. Penny also has experience in offences under the Modern Slavery Act and offences under the Firearms Act. Penny was a member of the pupillage committee whilst in Chambers.
Penny teaches Criminal Litigation and Sentencing, Criminal Evidence, and Ethics on the Bar Professional Training Course. She also teaches on the Individual Advocacy Training Sessions for Criminal Advocacy. She provides pupillage application support and interview advice for students as part of the BPTC Pupillage Advisory Team.
