The day's events covered a range of discussions on leading technologies of the day and how they impact on humans and non-humans.
After a welcome from Co-Directors of City’s Centre for Human-Computer Interaction Design, Dr Alex Taylor and Professor Stephanie Wilson, speakers included Nick Grantham (Zebra People) - 'Recruit Better: Ethically Effective Design Hiring'; Ssravya Chandhiramowuli (City PhD student) - 'Data annotation for AI: Working within and around tools, norms and frictions'; 'More-than-human-design in Smart Cities' featuring City's Dr Sara Heitlinger; and Olena Bulygina (Cosmic Velocity) - 'Leading with values and designing for impact'.
Commenting on the event, Dr Taylor said:
“We were pleased to have hosted our successful in-person HCID Open Day event this year, taking the theme 'Design Better'. It was wonderful to see such a very strong turnout to the event from visitors and our staff and students. The topics we discussed were all inspired and thought-provoking; they reflected where we are and what we strive to achieve as human-computer interaction design researchers and students. We wish to extend our deep gratitude to everyone who attended, especially our speakers and our sponsors, City Interaction Lab and Bold Insight.”
