Abstract
Join City’s Q-Step Centre in welcoming Prof Jackie Carter for a discussion on the steps social science students can take to develop their data analysis skills and successfully transition into research and policy careers.
This event will focus on work experience, work placements and fellowships, data literacy and research skills, and the value of non-academic experience.
Jackie’s talk will be followed by a Q&A session. Students from across the university are welcome to participate. Refreshments will be provided.
About the speaker
Jackie Carter is a Professor of Statistical Literacy and Co-Director of UoM’s Q-Step Centre. Jackie’s research is focussed on the intersection of social science and STEM teaching for the development of data literacy and statistical skills.
Her recent book, ‘Work Placements, Internships & Applied Social Research’ was published in 2021. Work Placements follows Q-Step graduates as they transition into the workplace.
In 2022 Jackie completed ‘Pathways into Policy – Social Science Alumni Stories’, a resource for students interested in pursuing research and policy careers. Pathways into Policy is free and available online.
City’s Q-Step Centre provides comprehensive quantitative methods training for social science students. It is located in the Department of Sociology and Criminology.
