Danielle Jawando
Danielle Jawando’s debut YA novel, And the Stars Were Burning Brightly (Simon and Schuster, 2020), was shortlisted for multiple awards, including the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize and the YA Book Prize. She has had several short plays performed in Manchester and London and has worked as a storyline writer for Coronation Street, as well as publishing a biography of Maya Angelou for children.
Her new book, When Our Worlds Collided, is a powerful coming-of-age story about chance encounters, injustice, and how the choices that we make can completely change our future. When fourteen-year old Shaq is stabbed outside of a busy shopping centre in Manchester, three teenagers from very different walks of life are unexpectedly brought together. What follows flips their worlds upside down and makes them question the deep-rooted prejudice and racism that exists within the police, the media, and the rest of society.
Praise for When Our Worlds Collided:
"A raw, unflinching and powerful story" (Manjeet Mann, author of The Crossing)
"A book that will leave a mark forever on many hearts" (Melvin Burgess, author of Junk)
"Jawando does it again! A powerful, much needed book about race in the UK. A must read" (Abiola Bello, co-author of The Very Merry Murder Club)
"Gripping, unflinching, immersive and addictive" (Lara Williams, author of Supper Club)
