In its first full inspection by Ofsted, City receives ‘Good’ rating for its apprenticeship programmes

By City Press Office (City Press Office), Published

Ofsted carried out its first full inspection in October 2023, following the New Provider Monitoring visit in June 2021, and rated City’s apprenticeship programmes ‘Outstanding’ in the Behaviour and attitudes category, and ‘Good’ overall.

Dr Sionade Robinson, Vice-President (Enterprise, Engagement & Employability), said:

I am very proud of City’s ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted for our apprenticeships. Being classified a ‘Good’ provider makes it easier for prospective apprentices to find and access our courses. My thanks and congratulations to all colleagues, apprentices and employers for their continued hard work and contribution to this inspection.

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills, who inspect services providing education and skills for learners of all ages.

The inspection examines what it is like to be a learner with each provider, what the provider does well and what it needs to do better and looks at safeguarding arrangements.

Sionade said:

The inspector commented on the calm and professional environment we provide for our learners, as well as the relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills from our staff who are ‘experts in their fields’. We were also recognised for our collaboration with employers and the benefits appreciated by both employers and apprentices, ensuring they receive relevant on the job training and experience to complement their studies with us at City.

City works closely with employers to help develop and retain their best talent and create programmes that address skills gaps and meet businesses’ goals and objectives.

Matt Bungay, Head of Apprenticeships, said:

I am thrilled our apprenticeship programmes have been recognised as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. It’s particularly important to celebrate the apprentices themselves, who have consistently high pass rates and a high proportion of whom gain high grades in their final assessments.

When we created our apprenticeship hub, we wanted to ensure we have effective delivery of apprenticeships across all Schools and a thorough governance process, to ensure all programmes align with City’s Vision. It is wonderful to see this has been recognised by Ofsted!

City currently offers five apprenticeships, at L5 to degree-level or equivalent, combining on-the-job training with study for a higher qualification, helping progress an apprentice’s career and give employers the highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce a business needs. City will be launching further apprenticeship courses in 2024.
