He is the Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair at City and is a world-renowned expert in screw machines who has dedicated his work to the development of design excellence in academia and industry which he does through researching, teaching and collaborating with industry in numerical modelling, analysis and design of Positive Displacement Machines.

Among other roles, Professor Kovacevic is the Director of City’s Centre for Compressor Technology, Chair of the International Conference on Compressors and their Systems, Associate Dean for Corporate Engagement in the School of Science and Technology, Non-executive specialist at Megger, Director of PDM Analysis Ltd and Co-Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering.

Professor Kovacevic’s main educational interest is in developing the design excellence of undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students and linking this to industrial research.

Among his recent achievements, Professor Kovacevic was elected Fellow of the Academy of Science and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina in December 2022. In 2021, Professor Kovacevic was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair to transform the technology around oil-free rotary positive displacement machines. In 2020, he was the winner of the prestigious James Clayton Prize, awarded by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

The new Fellows will be formally admitted to the Academy at a special ceremony in London on 28th November 2023, when each Fellow will sign the roll book. In joining the Fellowship, they will lend their unique capabilities to achieving the Academy’s overarching strategic goal to harness the power of engineering to create a sustainable society and an inclusive economy for all.

Professor Sir Jim McDonald FREng FRSE, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, said:

Engineering is everywhere, but nowhere the same, and our new Fellows represent the great breadth and diversity of engineers who are striving to address some of the world’s most complex challenges – benefiting society and the economy in the process. From next generation power networks and water systems to quantum computing and artificial intelligence, our new Fellows are shaping the future. We live in an era of rapid change across our communities, our country, and of course our planet. Today we welcome to our Fellowship an inspiring group of people who are harnessing their creativity, courage and commitment to drive positive change in the world around us and we look forward to their contribution to our work.
