The Centre for Language and Communication Science Research at the School of Health and Psychological Sciences, City, University of London welcomes Professor Henrik Danielsson (Linköping University, Sweden) to discuss how thinking and communication differ among people with intellectual disabilities, as part of the research seminar series.
Abstract
This presentation aims to explore cognition and language in those who are neurodiverse.
Henrik will present a range of research to get a clearer view of how thinking and communication differ among various groups, especially focusing on those with intellectual disabilities.
However, he will also touch on other forms of neurodiversity to give a fuller picture.
A key part of the talk will be to understand how these cognitive and language differences affect daily life, including education, participation in the community, and mental health.
By using real research examples, he will discuss how people’s abilities in these areas impact their lives and what that means for supporting them better.
Moreover, this discussion intends to move beyond the mere identification of challenges to also spotlight the potential pathways for enhancing support mechanisms, educational strategies, and therapeutic interventions tailored to the unique needs of the neurodiverse population.
