The Centre for Food Policy at the School of Health and Psychological Sciences, City, University of London welcomes Mark Spires and Olubunmi Kolawole to discuss their findings on the lived experience research of food and food environments, as part of the research seminar series.
Abstract
Dr Mark Spires and Olubunmi Kolawole will be sharing some of the Centre for Food Policy’s recent lived experience research and evidence dissemination experiences.
They will be discussing methods used, and findings from several research studies carried out in a variety of geographical settings, as well as efforts made to effectively translate and communicate relevant findings to key policy makers.
They will also be sharing next steps in moving this work forward both within the Centre and with colleagues outside of City.
About the speakers
Dr Mark Spires is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Food Policy.
Mark is responsible for establishing and leading new, interdisciplinary projects exploring public policy solutions for healthy diets in the UK and internationally.
Mark’s primary research interests centre on seeking to better understand peoples’ lived experiences of local food environments, and how these findings can contribute to more effective and inclusive food policy.
Olubunmi Kolawole is a researcher at the Centre for Food Policy. She is currently working on research projects under the NIHR-funded Healthy Weight Policy Research Unit and previously the Obesity Policy Research Unit.
Her work focuses on understanding the structural determinants which shape the consumption of healthy diets and produce dietary inequalities.
Olubunmi has experience using a range of qualitative and participatory approaches to explore lived experiences, particularly among low-income communities and families with children.
She also has experience in bringing communities and decision-makers together to develop more equitable and effective policy solutions.
