Abstract
Despite global evidence in support of investing in midwives, midwifery-led care remains on the margins across societies.
In some parts of the world midwifery care continues to be inaccessible.
Alternatively, in other parts, where midwifery care is widely implemented, the hyper-medicalisation of childbirth is a growing concern to the preservation of midwifery skills.
In a hybrid seminar, Midwifery on the Margins: Counter-narratives, Knowledge Justice and Birth brings together interdisciplinary lessons from alternative and often marginalised knowledges and maternity care practices.
Through centring Indigenous birth practices, midwifery philosophies and holistic care, we explore contested knowledges and their interactions with dominant health care systems.
