Pandora and her box of horrors; Eve in the Garden of Eden; Alice in her wonderland; and Bluebeard's unfortunate wives.
For hundreds of years, women in literature, fairytale and myth have repeatedly suffered the (sometimes fatal) consequences of their curiosity. But why is curiosity so often associated with women? What makes it such a threatening trait? And how do feminist retellings of canonical stories interrogate and challenge what has so often been a dangerous history of curious women?
Led by Dr Hetta Howes, a specialist in women's writings, this interactive webinar will explore the fairytale of Bluebeard and some of its modern retellings, especially Helen Oyeyemi's Mr Fox. It welcomes anyone and everyone but is especially designed to give participants a taster of what studying on the English MA at City, University of London is like.
Attendance at City events is subject to our terms and conditions.
