Speaker: Veronica Tuffrey, Senior Data Analyst and Researcher (Demography) at Greater London Authority.
Abstract
The Greater London Authority is the strategic regional authority for London, with powers over transport, policing, economic development, and fire and emergency planning. The GLA’s City Intelligence Unit (CIU) provides Mayor Sadiq Khan and the GLA with evidence and analysis which enable the formulation of policy and strategy in London.
In this talk, Veronica will describe some of the projects she has worked on since joining the CIU’s Demography and Policy Analysis team in 2021, including analysis of population change in London during the COVID-19 pandemic, and creation of a migration statistics data hub for use by local authorities.
She will also share insights about how working in the public sector can be a rewarding career choice for data science graduates, and about maximising the chance of success in job searches and applications.
