The Central Javanese gamelan is a percussion orchestra consisting of tuned gongs, metallophones and drums. Pieces range from soft and delicate to powerful and stark and often accompany dance or shadow puppet theatre.
The Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar is an ornate orchestra of sonorous bronze gongs and metallophones, which produce an exciting and dynamic music characterised by complex interlocking melodic and rhythmic patterns.
