Abstract:
Within Tesco Technology we have a team that this year will reach 90 Data Scientists and Engineers that focus on modelling complex business problems and deploying data products at scale. We work across multiple business domains and problem types including: online, pricing, security, fulfilment, distribution, property, IoT, and computer vision to mention just some.
This talk will primarily explore:
- What is Data Science at Tesco
- The role of Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics in retail
- Using network science to understand how people move and how products relate to each other.

Alisdair Wallis, Data Science Manager at Tesco
I’m a Data Science Manager at Tesco, where I looks after the R&D activities of the Data Science team. I’ve been in Tesco Data Science a while now but before joining Tesco I worked in molecular quantum mechanics doing a PhD and a couple of post-doctoral roles.
