This Upper intermediate level course will help you to develop fluency in the Japanese language, understand more advanced grammar, working towards or refreshing your JLPT N2.
Our Japanese Upper Intermediate (Year 5) will allow you to communicate at a nearly advanced level, working towards JLPT N2, which is the required level to work in a Japanese company. It's the perfect follow-on course to Japanese Intermediate (Year 4 ) or if you have a solid JLPT N3.
The full course is made up of three 10-week modules – part 1, part 2 and part 3. Enrol on the full syllabus (parts 1-3) to gain a thorough understanding of Upper intermediate Japanese at the best price.
Lessons takes place once a week, ideal for those with various commitments or working full-time.

On commencing the course, you should be able to feel confident in joining conversations with friends and peers, be capable of reading brochures and emails. You will learn new structures and vocabulary around different topics to extend the range of expression in this highly communicative course.
The course aims to introduce you to 600 kanji before the end of Module Three so at least two hours of homework per week is essential.
If you already have solid knowledge of JLPT N3, this course will push you to the next level working towards achieving JLPT N2*.
The Japanese Upper Intermediate (Year 5) course is ideal if you have completed the Japanese Intermediate (Year 4 ) course. You should be able to communicate at JLPT N3 level to enrol on this course.

The Japanese Upper Intermediate (Year 5) is the perfect follow-on programme for anyone who has completed the Japanese Intermediate (Year 4) or has a solid JLPT N3 level.
To enrol to Part 2 or Part 3 you need to be familiar with the content studied in previous terms - see 'what will I learn'.
You will need to respond to instructions and read course documents in English.
The emphasis in this course is on listening and speaking. The lessons focus on language that is required in authentic situations.
There is no formal assessment and no qualification is issued at the end of the course, but you will be awarded an official City, University of London certificate on completion of the course. You must attend over 70 per cent of the classes to be eligible for the certificate.

Listening to audio clips and watching videos are an important element in our lessons. More comprehensive grammar exercises and reading texts are generally set as homework.
All evaluation will take place in a relaxed and informal setting.
