City Law School Lecturer, Lynne Townley, has been elected Chair of the Association of Women Barristers (AWB).

She steps into her new role in 2019 for a one-year term.

The AWB was founded in 1991 to monitor and represent the interests of women at the English Bar and the Association's current President is the Rt Hon Lady Justice Hallett.

Membership is now open to both men and women and the society strives to assist those from diverse backgrounds to succeed at the Bar.

The AWB will shortly be reviving its mentorship programme to assist newly called members of the Bar to be paired with a mentor within the profession.

Upcoming events for the remainder of this term include a joint event with the Society of Asian Lawyers on 15th June at the Bar Council to assist barristers wishing to apply to become a Queen's Counsel.
