Bayes Business School’s MSc in Insurance and Risk Management (IRM) has been certified as a Global Centre of Insurance Excellence (GCIE).

The International Insurance Society (IIS) certification recognises universities and colleges around the world who provide outstanding risk management and insurance programmes. Bayes is the only business school in the UK to secure GCIE status.

To secure recertification for another five years, the School had to show:

  • The course produces high quality graduates who employers are keen to recruit
  • A connection to industry through activities such as an advisory board, campus speakers and an internship programme
  • Evidence of academics’ and practitioners’ qualifications and continuing expertise, with each demonstrating their knowledge and teaching are relevant and up-to-date and with relevant experience.

MSc IRM Course Director Dr Cormac Bryce said: “The GCIE certification adds to our Chartered Insurance Institute and Institute of Risk Management  accreditation. That shows the programme really is the gold standard of post-graduate qualifications for students seeking the expertise and skills they need to build successful careers in the insurance industry.

“Our MSc is very much a fast-paced, hands-on programme, created and taught by leading academics and practitioners. It’s ideal for people with a good degree, preferably related to business or finance, and for those already working in the industry who want to fast-track their career and build valuable, career-long networks.”

Dr Bryce said one of the course’s unique selling points is the School’s proximity to Lloyd’s of London – which students visit. This, he said, provides a unique practical and strategic orientation and perspective.

A tonic for graduates and for employers

Bayes Executive Dean Professor Andre Spicer said: “I am particularly pleased at this news because I know the institute’s validation process places a lot of emphasis on graduates’ employability and the value the qualification brings for employers. Our location in the City of London – including being on the doorstep of the iconic Lloyds of London – means students can tap into the beating heart of finance and business.

“I am sure graduates and students currently completing the programme will be heartened by this news.”

An IIS spokesperson said the certification process encourages universities to play an integral role in advancing insurance knowledge and to undertake insurance research and develop intellectual capital. It also helps build connections between the insurance industry and top-tier academic programs and faculty.
