Abstract
This conference aims to examine the challenges that copyright law is encountering with the rise of emerging technologies which focus on artificial intelligence.
The presentation will primarily delve into the key developments concerning the level of protection afforded to works through artificial intelligence, encompassing both civil and common law perspectives.
Furthermore, the discussion will explore the issue of utilizing copyrighted works for training artificial intelligence systems without obtaining consent from their copyright holders.
The conference will extensively cover the major legal and jurisprudential stances, as well as the concepts put forth by national copyright offices.
About the speaker
Germán Darío Flórez Acero, Director of the master’s degree in Innovation in Digital Law and Legal Tech at the Sergio Arboleda University School of Law in Colombia.
He is the current President of the Colombian Association of Legal Tech alt+co. Germán is a Lawyer from the National University of Colombia with more than 20 years of experience in IP and IT law.
He has a LLM in Intellectual Property from Queen Mary University of London, with studies in Telecommunications Law, Computer Law, Electronic Commerce and Cyberspace Law at the Complutense University of Madrid and Pecs University of Hungary.
Germán has served as a legal adviser and consultant to the Colombian Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, the Colombian Copyright office, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Superior Council of the Judiciary, among others.
He has published numerous books and articles on intellectual property, digital law, and legal tech.
Germán is a professor in intellectual property, law and innovation, digital law, legal tech, competition law, arbitration, commercial and telecommunications law, both at the undergraduate and master's degree levels.
He is also an Arbitrator of the Arbitration and Conciliation Centre of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, and a visiting professor at European and Latin American universities. He has been President of the Network of Associations of British Universities in Colombia Redbrit.
