Abstract: Blockchain and its relations with smart contracts is receiving increasing attention from academy and industry, since it is considered a breakthrough technology that could bring huge benefits to many different sectors. Insurance is one sector that, among others, started to carefully investigate the possibilities of blockchain.

The presentation will give an overview of blockchain and smart contracts, by highlighting strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for this technology. Several use cases from different sectors will be discussed, including the insurance one.

Bio: Livia Torterolo has a PhD in BioEngineering from University of Genoa (Italy). She was also a visiting student at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) conducting research on innovative technologies (grid, cloud, HPC) applied to bioinformatics. Since 2005, she has been working in ICT research projects in collaboration with enterprises and research centers, at national and European level. Expert of IT Governance, Information Security management systems, and Risk management. Livia is also certified Lead Auditor ISO/IEC 27001:2013, ITIL v3 Foundation, ISO22301:2012 and PMP. She is currently leading research projects at NIS and DGS Group.
