A programme of a cappella pieces by some of Iceland's most loved 20th century composers, alongside premieres by a new generation of Icelandic musicians, performed by the talented vocalists of the Chamber Choir of the Iceland Academy of the Arts, directed by Sigurður Halldórsson.
The harshness of the Icelandic winter and incantations for love are the main themes of this concert, which will juxtapose poetry from 17th and 18th century Iceland with songs by Atli Heimir Sveinsson, Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson, Jón Ásgeirsson, Jórunn Viðar, Tryggvi Baldvinsson, Gunnar Reynir Sveinsson and Hafliði Hallgrímsson.
Two pieces by choir members will be performed: Lítil blóm (Little Flowers) by Katrín Helga Ólafsdóttir and the world premiere of Love Incantations by Pétur Eggertsson, featuring Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir performing on her newly-invented instrument "hulda". Lilja María is a former member of the choir and currently a masters composition student at City, University of London.
