Favourite Animals

Please note, concert is a Monday evening.

Favourite Animals is a ten-piece improvising ensemble led by baritone saxophonist and composer Cath Roberts. Originally assembled for Cath’s Artist in Residence commission at Lancaster Jazz Festival 2016, the group creates music that combines the radical spontaneity of free improvisation with disruptive compositional structures that complicate the role of the players, the score and the composer.

Lurching between riff and abstraction…maintains an elegant balance between emergent melody and the wilder activity at its fringes (The Wire)
