This film club is an educational initiative which screens films with health topics on the first Wednesday of the month, followed by a discussion of the topics raised.

'I, Daniel Blake' was produced by Ken Loach in 2016. The film opens with the story of Daniel who has suffered a heart-attack at 59, and is struggling with the work capability assessment. In the job centre Daniel meets Katy and her children who applied for housing in London but have been moved to the North East of England because of the lack of available housing. The film shows them visiting a food bank and other places where those who are struggling to maintain health and wellbeing might visit.

Discussant for the film will be Professor Amanda Burls of City, University of London. Amanda is a public health physician with special interest in Evidence-Based Health Care and Public and Patient involvement in Health Care and Health Research.

The event is free and open to all staff, students, potential students and persons directly connected with the activities of City, University of London.
