This year's Staff Wellbeing Day offers you the opportunity to talk to experienced healthcare professionals on a range of issues including diet, heart health, cancer prevention and mental health.

As well as a number of interactive stalls in the Great Hall, we will be running workshops and one to one appointments on:

  •  Diet
  •  Personal resilience
  • Heart MOT's (cholesterol and blood sugar checks)
  • Massage
  • Financial wellbeing
  • Sleep and mindfulness.

Due to popularity and demand this year will see two Health Check Kiosk’s in the Great Hall and one located at Bunhill Row.

CitySport will be offering staff free wellbeing and dance classes between Monday 15th and Friday 19th June. See below for further details.

Diet and Nutrition

Speak to a professional dietician for the opportunity to discuss health through diet and nutrition, either by booking a 20 minute one to one appointment or by visiting the stand between 12:00 and 14:00 for an informal chat.

Typical topics for discussion include; energy management, sports fuel and performance, feeding your children well, calorie advice and weight management.

Healthy Cooking Demonstration

Watch a chef prepare quick, simple and healthy meals to bring to work for lunch or to have for dinner using everyday products. Sample pots will be provided to taste.

(30-minute demonstrations at 12:00 and 13:00) 

There will also be a mystery vegetables completion.

Smoothie Bike

Burn some calories whilst blending your own juice by peddling a bike.


Heart Health - MOT's

Nurses will be on hand to discuss any heart health concerns you may have and will be offering Glucose and Cholesterol checks.

Glucose Test – will check the blood sugar level in your blood.

Cholesterol Test – high cholesterol levels are a major risk factor for heart attack, hardening of the arteries and stroke. If your levels are higher during your test we will recommend that you visit your GP and have a fasting test.

Both tests require a simple finger prick test and you will obtain your results in minutes.

Appointments last 10 minutes and must be booked in advance.


A revitalising and energising routine performed through your clothing on a fully supportive massage chair by one of our therapists. The treatment will work key muscle groups to reinvigorate the mind and rid the body from areas of tension. It has proven helpful in the reduction of headaches; aches and pains in particular neck, shoulder and back pain; reduction in repetitive injuries to the hands and arms; reduced stress and increased awareness and immunity to bugs and germs.

No oils or creams are used during this treatment.

Massages last 20 minutes and must be booked in advance.

Health Check Kiosk

Visit the Wellpoint Kiosk, a state-of-the-art touch-screen health kiosk which will measure your weight, body mass index, body fat content, blood pressure and heart rate. Test results will be printed immediately and sent to your email address.

No booking is required. The test will take around 2-3 minutes and you can discuss your results with the operator. If you have a one to one appointment with one of our heart health nurses they will be happy to discuss the results also, combined with your glucose and cholesterol results.

Three kiosks are available this year due to popularity and to reduce waiting times (two in the Great Hall and one at Bunhill Row).

CitySport - FREE wellbeing and dance classes

CitySport are offering staff free wellbeing and dance classes between Monday 15th and Friday 19th June.

Any member of staff who holds membership to CitySport and has a ‘WellCard’ will not be charged during the offer period.

CitySport - Postural assessment

Sit down all day? Aches and pains in the upper or lower back?

Take control and learn how to manage your back problem with a 15 minute postural assessment, courtesy of CitySport.

Alcohol Awareness

A specialist will be available to provide advice and information on the health implications of alcohol. This interactive stand will include a breathalyser, beer goggles, drunk and dangerous remote control car and replica drinks.

Smoking Awareness and Cessation

‘Smokefree Islington’ the Islington stop smoking service will be providing advice on quitting and how smoking may affect your health. Why not try the carbon monoxide test.

Cancer Information and Prevention

Speak to a cancer specialist nurse about any concerns you may for you, your family or friends.

Information provided will be focused on the top 5 tips for prevention along with self-checks and warning signs.



Come and try the ‘emWave’ – a bio-feedback device which enables you to experience in a fun way how something as simple as deep, regular breathing can help the body and mind to relax and de-stress.

Also new to this year’s event will be ‘Mindflex’. This game combines advanced technology with the power of thought to create an interactive experience unlike any other - a game where players compete in the ultimate mental marathon!

You will also have the opportunity to discuss any worries, as tips and advice on signs and symptoms will be provided.

Eye Care - Fight for Sight

The Fight for Sight Eye Clinic is a clinic set up for City Optometry students to practice their clinical skills in the 3rd Year of the course.

A free sight test is available to all City staff members and there is a 20% discount available on a complete pair of glasses (during term time).

Heart Start life skills - CPR and Defibrillator demonstrations

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a first aid technique that can be used if someone is not breathing properly or if their heart has stopped. Learn this essential lifesaving technique along with how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Demonstrations will be every hour in the Great Hall starting at 10:00.


All workshops must be booked in advanced.

Sleep and how to get it

This 45 minute workshop is designed to provide to those with sleeping problems an understanding of the behaviours, thoughts and feelings that may lie behind those problems. A brief explanation of common sleeping disorders will be given followed by evidence-based advice. It is hoped that time will be available for a general discussion around people’s individual experiences and future assistance should it be thought necessary.

The 45 minute workshop is designed to provide those interested with a basic overview of mindfulness as a type of meditation that involves focusing your mind on the present. Current research suggests that mindfulness meditation improves mood, decrease stress, and boost immune function. A presentation will be given to briefly explain how mindfulness is thought to work and the various ways to achieve mindfulness.

Financial Wellbeing - Money Made Clear (45 minute 1:1 appointments)

In the current economic climate, we need to be in control of our finances more than ever, sometimes it's difficult to know where to start. The Money Advice Service can help.

A trained advisor will be running sessions on making the most of your money. They will cover everything from budgeting to borrowing, spending today and saving for tomorrow.
As an independent body set up by the UK’s financial regulator they won’t try to sell you anything.
