Open to all doctoral students
The Graduate School is planning a number of events for 2013 which will bring together staff and students from across the University.
The first of these events is a reception for all doctoral students to mark Chinese New Year coupled with a talk from Professor Kate Phylaktis. This event is open to all our doctoral students and to staff with a responsibility for supervising our students.
City University London is one of the UK's most international universities, given its highly diverse student and staff population. In addition, our successful students, whether UK or international, are taking their places internationally in business, industry and academia and competing for those positions with graduates from all the world's best universities.
The economic successes of China in the last two or three decades feature in our news bulletins and in the press almost every day but what does this mean for someone graduating with a City doctorate? What challenges do the burgeoning Chinese economy offer - and what opportunities?
Professor Kate Phylaktis who specializes in International Finance and is Director of the Emerging Markets Group at Cass will present a short talk entitled "China's global economic impact today".
The programme for the event is as follows:
18:30 Welcome and induction
18:45 Guest speaker
19:15 Questions and answers
19:30 Drinks reception with Chinese food
Registration and reception: Oliver Thompson Lecture Theatre Foyer
Lecture: B103 University Building
