Employers say City graduates are ‘ready for work’

City is one of the top 25 universities in the UK for producing graduates employers like to recruit

by Nicola Ranson (Communications Officer)

Results of a recent survey have placed City as one of the top 25 universities in the country for producing graduates that are ready for the workplace. The rankings, compiled following a survey of major UK recruiters, placed City in 23rd position in the country and sixth in London.

The survey was designed and carried out by human resources consultancy Emerging and market research firm, Trendance. Recruiters from UK companies in sectors that included business, IT and engineering, were asked which universities they prefer to recruit from and what attributes they value in a graduate.

Professional experience, specific skills and a relevant degree were the top three things recruiters said they look for. UK companies also said that a University’s links with industry is one of the most important things when looking for institutions to work with.

Reporting the findings, the Times Higher Education said this survey is particularly useful for students who are assessing their different options. They commented that these rankings allow individuals to assess the “long-term value for money at different UK universities, at a time when the cuts to maintenance grants put more pressure than ever on students to consider their financial future.”

Gemma Kenyon, Head of Careers and Student Development at City said:

These positive results reflect the importance City places on the employability of our graduates. Our careers service works in tandem with colleagues in our five Schools to help prepare graduates for the workplace and the delivery of academic programmes which are highly attuned to the needs of business.
