City warmly welcomes students from China. We currently have over 400 students from China studying on our undergraduate and graduate degree programmes, who are part of a vibrant international community situated in the heart of London.

City Visits

City staff make frequent trips to attend fairs, visit schools and undertake one-to-one counselling with student and parents.

We are aware that in China there may be some confusion around the translation of City, University of London, as there are two universities which use this name in Mandarin Chinese - City, University of London and London Metropolitan University.

Entry requirements

City, University of London welcomes applications from Chinese students. London is a great place for students from China to study as it is a global city with virtually every nationality represented in some way.

Undergraduate

Qualifications from China's high school system are not accepted for direct entry and so students would be required to undertake our International Foundation programme at INTO City, which then offers the opportunity for guaranteed entry into City’s bachelor programmes.

International qualifications such as A level and IB are accepted for direct entry, and details of grades requirements for these qualifications can be found on the course pages.

Postgraduate

Applicants will be considered for most postgraduate courses with a good Chinese bachelor’s degree from a recognised University.

Students who don’t meet the requirements for direct entry may have the option to undertake our Graduate Diploma programme at INTO City, which then offers the opportunity for guaranteed entry into City’s Masters programmes.

English language requirements

English language requirements will vary from course to course and the information on this page is only intended to be a general guide. For individual course requirements, please refer to the course pages, or contact Pei tingting..

Secure English Language Test - For students requiring visas, a Secure English Language Test (SELT) is usually required. Find a full list of acceptable English Language qualifications.

Pre-sessional English programme - Students who do not meet the English language requirements for their course may have the option to undertake our Pre-sessional English programme at INTO City prior to entry into the institution.

Scholarships & loans

Undergraduate

We have a range of partial scholarship schemes available for international students, each based on what qualifications you are studying.  The main funding packages for international students are:

  • President's International Scholarship
  • Global Leaders Scholarship

Postgraduate

Most courses have partial scholarship schemes and details can be found on each course page. If you cannot see a scholarship on the course page and wish to find out if one is available, please email us.

There are a number of excellent external scholarship schemes available. The most attractive for international students are:

  • Chevening Scholarship are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The Scholarships are awarded to outstanding scholars with leadership potential. Awards are typically for a one-year Master's degree, in any subject and at any of the UK's leading universities.
