Bangladesh

Zohan Shams (MSc International Business Economics 2012) is based in Dhaka. He is currently a Credit Analyst at Standard Chartered Bank.

About me:

I've always been a key member in various organisations. I was president of Notre Dame Science Club, Senior PL of Bangladesh Scouts, and a Student Representative and coordinator of the Food Co-op programme at City.

In my current role, I perform regular client interactions and determine their credit needs through analysing financial statements/projections/portfolios. My client pool includes many of the largest corporate houses in Bangladesh who have operations beyond the country's border.

Why I am an ambassador:

The two years I spent in London studying at City have had more impact on my life than any other period. My MSc (with distinction) is helping me to shine through my career. I greatly appreciate the lessons I learnt from my professors so, as a note of appreciation, I would like to give something back.

My aim is to unite the alumni community currently working/living in Bangladesh as well as, to some extent, in the South Asian region. I would like to help the Alumni Office to update the information they hold on alumni in Bangladesh, circulate news and other information to local alumni and put together a team of volunteers who can assist newcomers to City. This activity will help us to build a strong and collaborative network.

Saumitra Sarder (BPTC 2014) is also based in Dhaka. He is currently employed by the Bangladeshi law chamber known as 'The Counsels'.

About me:

After passing my Bar Professional Training Course from City, I returned to Bangladesh and promptly started my career as a Barrister at one of the leading law firms in the country, The Counsel, under the supervision of Advocate J.N. Deb (now elevated as the justice of the Supreme court of Bangladesh). I practice mainly civil, criminal ,writ and company matters.

Prior to  that I passed my LL.B (Hon's) and LL.M from Dhaka University in 2001 and 2003 respectively and enrolled as an advocate in 2005.

Why I am an Ambassador:

Since my days at Note Dame college, I have been involved in many extra curricular activities, including News Editor of Notre Dame's monthly news magazine Dhak-Dhol o Chit-Chathilst. Whilst at Dhaka University, I was active in student politics and Lance Corporal of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC). I had a wonderful time at The City Law School, where I learnt a lot, and would like to contribute to the Alumni Network by sharing my experience of City with prospective students.

Minhaz Ador (Economics 2014) is also based in Dhaka.

About me:

Prior to my time at City, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Economics from North South University which laid the foundation of my interest in Economics. Having successfully completed my undergrad, I completed my MSc Economics from City with Distinction. Currently, I am working as a full-time Lecturer in the department of Economics at North South University.

Why I am an Ambassador:

I intend to actively encourage participation in alumni activities in Bangladesh and connect with fellow graduates, so that we can all share our experiences in a collective manner. I also want to let prospective students know more about my experience at City including how to manage course load as well as maintaining a work-life balance. I will be more than welcome to answer their queries regarding everything from the application process to finally getting into City.
