Course overview

The PowerShell Basics short course teaches the basics of the PowerShell scripting language, the Microsoft standard for automation. This is a great introduction to a key Microsoft technology that has grown in use over the last few years. PowerShell is an open source project that can be installed on Windows, macOS and Linux. PowerShell can be used for working with and automating Exchange Server, SQL Server, SharePoint, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Office 365, Azure and so on, as well as administrating servers and desktops.

All of the PowerShell basics are covered in our evening classes, including:

  • variables to strings,
  • operators to arrays,
  • loops to basic error handling,
  • working with files and the Integrated Scripting Environment (ISE).

An overview of the key concepts of the pipeline is given, as well as an introduction to the help system and cmdlets.
