Course overview

My Home Life is an international movement for quality of life in care homes. It is here to support the sector, celebrate positive practice and communicate the vital role that care homes play for our frailest citizens.
My Home Life has developed a bespoke Leadership/ Professional Support Programme for care home managers in Kent to help them take forward change in their care homes.

1500 care home managers from across the UK have already joined the Programme and are using it to help drive forward evidence-based, relationship-centred care in their homes.

What does the programme comprise of and how does it work?

Each group comprises of 18 care home managers/ deputies who, over a 9 month period, are guided and supported by professional coaches and facilitators to advance their skills, engage with evidence-based, relationship-centered practice and resolve the complex everyday issues that impact upon the quality of their service.

The programme works with managers at whatever level they find themselves, to facilitate their personal growth as individuals and as professionals leading change. The programme begins with a three day introductory workshop followed by a series of monthly half-day action learning meetings. Action learning involves experiential learning through action.

It is a continuous process of learning and reflection, supported by colleagues, with an intention of improving practice. It recognises that individuals learn best when they learn with and from each other, by working on real problems and reflecting on their own experiences

The sessions are confidential to allow people to feel able to be honest and frank. The learning, with the managers’ permission, will be shared more widely to enable community and statutory services to understand how they can better support care homes deliver quality of life. In this regard, managers become part of a wider movement for social change.

Outcomes reported by managers already on the programme:

  • Increased resilience, less at risk of burn-out
  • Advancement of skills and strategies to drive forward transformational change
  • Improvements in staff wellbeing and resident/ family quality of life
