This bespoke workshop was developed to support the implementation of group care (Pregnancy Circles and Parenting Circles) across the NHS – over 500 practitioners have now been trained and the training has been consistently well evaluated by midwives, health visitors, maternity support workers and students.

Pregnancy Circles Workshop: Learn to facilitate Group Care Course overview

After attending this training you will have a good understanding of the group care (Pregnancy Circles/Parenting Circles) model of care and have considered implementation challenges and opportunities.  You will have enhanced your group facilitation skills in a range of contexts and you will receive a certificate as a group care facilitator.  You will also receive an electronic copy of the training Handbook.

Who is it for?

Midwives, Health Visitors, Family Support workers, Maternity Support Workers, Parent Education practitioners or anybody interested in Group Care are welcome to attend. The training is interactive and includes role-play, so come prepared to get involved.

What will I learn?

1/ Understand the history and evidence behind the group care model.

2/ Develop your own group facilitation skills:

-Facilitating different ice-breakers, topic-based activities, small group work

-Facilitating woman-led discussions

-Managing difficult situations in a group

-Managing 1-1 checks and confidentiality in a group environment

3/ Consider how the model might be implemented with different populations, contexts, areas and professionals.

Assessment and certificates

You will receive a certificate as a Pregnancy Circles facilitator.

Eligibility

An understanding of maternity services and standards of antenatal care would be useful.

English requirements

You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.
