Professor Gwyneth Lewis, OBE

Professor Gwyneth Lewis, OBE, was given an Award of Doctor of Science honoris causa by City in 2010.

Department of Health

Professor Lewis, OBE, was the National Clinical Director for Maternal Health and Maternity Services for the Department of Health, England, as well as the Director of the Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths UK.

A highly respected doctor, Professor Lewis has promoted both maternal and newborn health for many years and is now contributing to global women's health research as part of the Institute for Women's Health at University College London. In addition to her research commitments, Professor Lewis is a dedicated teacher and is a visiting professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Social Care at the University of Bournemouth, as well as a consultant for the United Nations and an elected director of the international charity The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood. Professor Lewis has also co-directed and produced two short films, including the award-winning My Sister, My Self.
