Briefly explain your business/business concept and the problem it aims to solve:

TRYATEC is the C2C, B2C online marketplace for renting the latest tech gadgets, such as drones, VR gear and professional cameras.

TRYATEC facilitates the exchange of tech gadgets, while reducing electronic waste. We enable convenient technology access on-demand, meaning that users are no longer required to make a high investment in order to experience the latest technology. On the other hand, businesses and individuals can safely lend their gadgets and create a new revenue stream easily and securely.

How did you come up with this idea?

Co-founder Sabine Opris wanted to  buy a DSLR camera - and realised how incredibly difficult it was to try a camera without needing to buy it first. She presented a camera-rental solution to this problem at City Starter’s weekend. Joined by co-founder Elena Sokolova, and a few months market research later, it became clear that this problem exists not only for cameras, but for the latest tech gadgets. We found that even when a gadget is purchased, in most cases the gadget owner seldom uses it.  So, we combined a solution to these problems and created TRYATEC, the B2C/C2C online rental marketplace.

What stage is your business currently at, and what are your plans moving forward?

We are currently in our pre-launch stage, working to finalise our website and secure the perfect gadgets for our customers to soon be able to have the best technological experiences. Within the next few months, we will launch an online rental platform where quality tech experiences will soon be affordable.

What do you feel are your three biggest successes with your business so far?

A few key successes while we develop our business:

  1. We were happy to be shortlisted as one of the four finalists for the Inspiring Innovator of the Year Award, hosted by private bank Arbuthnot Latham.
  2. We tested our concept with the public and were pleased to see such a positive reaction at an early stage! For example, we received a great response when we were featured in the Secret London’s Blog post.
  3. We secured office space at City Launch Lab with a great environment to develop our business. We did this through CitySpark, where all City students have a chance to apply.
