Sonali qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and went on to become a partner in a local law firm. She specialised in property law but was also keen to develop the firm's civil litigation department in the field of family and employment law. Sonali has also undertaken pro bono work for various voluntary organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Acton Law Shop. It was during this earlier stage in her legal career that Sonali was introduced to teaching and taught various modules on the ILEX course and Law Access course.
Sonali joined The City Law School (formerly The Inns of Court School of Law) in May 2000 and is an original member of the LPC team. She was heavily involved in the design and development of this newly created course, which was added to the School's portfolio in September 2000 and which was awarded an "excellent" rating by the Law Society a year later. Since joining the School, Sonali has held various roles on the LPC including Deputy Course Director and Course Director for the LLM in Professional Legal Practice.
Sonali is currently a senior lecturer on the Legal Practice Course and subject co-ordinator for the Property Law and Practice module in stage one of the course and subject co-ordinator for the Family Law module in stage two. Sonali also teaches Legal Writing and Employment Law on the LPC and Legal Skills on the undergraduate LLB at The City Law School. She is also a dissertation supervisor on the LLM in Professional Legal Practice.
Sonali has previously been awarded The City Law School Award for Excellence based on student feedback.
