nullCity University London will lend a distinctive edge to this year's Digital Shoreditch festival (21 May to June 1), through its Gold Sponsorship of the festival. City co-hosts the Innovate day on 22 May centred on universities and research linked to Silicon Roundabout and Tech City. Innovate day takes place from 09:30 to 19:30 at the Digital Shoreditch Headquarters, 186 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6HU.

City University London's presence during this year's festival comes about through a collaboration of the School of Informatics, School of Journalism, Cass Business School and the Enterprise Office.

With its state-of-the-art Interaction Lab at the Centre for Human-Computer Interaction Design, unique course offerings, cutting-edge researchers and well-connected digital innovation services, City's School of Informatics has demonstrated its crucial role in the development of London's burgeoning digital industrial hub.

In the 'Better Conversations' segment, which takes place from 12:00 to 13:00, Dr Sara Jones and Dr Stephen Clulow will participate in a discussion exploring the ways in which businesses and universities can talk more effectively with each other in order to solve business problems. It is an interactive workshop aiming to expand, develop and generate original concepts in innovation which can break down barriers to the collaboration of universities and businesses.

Dr Jones is a senior lecturer in the Centre for Human-Computer Interaction at City University London, and is course director for the Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership run by the Interdisciplinary Centre for Creativity in Professional Practice at City. She is engaged in research and teaching about creativity in design for interactive systems and is particularly interested in the use of new technologies to support creative thinking.

Currently studying for the Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership (MICL) at City University London, Dr Clulow has over two decades of experience in creativity and innovation. The founder of Action for Innovation, which assists organizations to define opportunities, solve challenges, deliver innovation and adapt to change, has worked with small biotechs, large pharmaceutical companies and the civil service in the UK, Europe and USA. He has led initiatives that have generated novel solutions to long-standing industry problems in science, technology, IT and automation.

From 13:00 to 15:00, an interactive exhibition will enable participants to experience new innovations in gaming and health-related mobile phone applications, as well as demonstrations of the technologies used in the Interaction Lab. Participants will also be able to talk to staff about research, business partnerships, academic experts and a whole range of education and student collaboration opportunities.
