New Scholarship available for optometry students

City University London has introduced a new higher Scholarship for optometry students starting in 2012.
by Luke Nava

Under The Lord Mayor of London Scholarship Scheme, City University London is offering a Scholarship of up to £2,000 per year to UK and EU optometry undergraduate students achieving grades AAB or above at A-level (or equivalent) starting in September 2012.

Eligible students will automatically receive the Scholarship in January of their first year. Students who maintain a high level of achievement at City will continue to be rewarded each year. The Scholarships will not be means tested. They will not be tuition fee waivers: they will be paid directly to the student.

Professor Chris Hull, Head of the Division of Optometry and Visual Science at City, said that the higher Scholarship for optometry students has been introduced in order to reward academic excellence, as well as attracting the best students.

"At City we are focused on attracting the highest calibre of optometry students who are going to become the leading clinicians of the future. London is a fantastic place to study and City University London has a long tradition of providing leading optometry degrees.

"We hope that this new incentive will provide a very clear reason for those students who are going to be the best in this important profession to choose City University London as their university."
