Taught by a leading design professional, the Photoshop: An introduction short course provides a thorough introduction to the highly versatile industry-standard imaging and photo-editing software, Adobe Photoshop CC.
The short course provides a comprehensive basic knowledge of the industry's most flexible photo editing and manipulation software. You will learn not just the fundamentals of Photoshop and digital imaging (such as what is a pixel? What are vectors?) but also how to create your own digital creations.
The Photoshop: An introduction course is aimed at anyone looking to learn about Photoshop for the first time. Working knowledge of the Windows or Macintosh operating system is required.
This practical course takes place over ten weekly evenings in our central London location.

This Photoshop training course provides a thorough introduction to the highly versatile industry-standard imaging and photo-editing software, Adobe Photoshop CC. You will create collages, incorporating typography into images using the key functions of the programme, gaining hands-on experience while learning the fundamental principles of design.
You will be shown shortcuts and tips which will aid workflow and discover how Photoshop can be used in conjunction with other industry standard packages, such as Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
By the end of the short course you will have completed three projects using the methods learnt over the ten-week part time course, and will understand:

During the Photoshop course, you will acquire a plethora of skills and develop your theoretical knowledge of digital design.
You will not work on specific tasks aimed at developing practical Photoshop skills, but you will learn the tools and techniques to empower you to carry on using Photoshop once the course has finished.
By the end of the Photoshop: An introduction short course you will have completed three projects using the methods learnt over the ten-week part time course.
Working knowledge of the Windows or Macintosh operating system.
You must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Hands-on training is provided using Photoshop CC in practical teaching sessions. Realistic examples are used throughout.
Informal assessment will take place through group discussion, class room activities, and questions and answers sessions as guided by your tutor.
Handouts will be given in class.
The tutor will recommend books in class.
Pete Polanyk has been working in design for nearly 25 years at national newspapers (including The Guardian and The Independent) as well as several advertising agencies and publishing houses. He also designs on a freelance basis, record sleeves, posters and CD covers for various musical projects. He uses Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator alongside other design applications.
He has been teaching for nearly 17 years at City, University of London and has also taught Photoshop and Graphic Design at the University of Greenwich, University of the Arts, London and private clients.
He is a great believer in the "do it yourself" ethic in relation to self-publishing, and in his spare time he writes for blogs and produces music, self-releasing it on his own label and also designing the associated visual material (sleeve design, flyers, newsletters etc). His artwork has appeared in various books and websites about fanzines and music design.
