Yasmeen is an International Politics graduate. City’s central location, campus and renowned status made her choice to study here easy.
Why did you decide to apply to City?
I really liked the BSc International Politics course, the grade requirements were achievable and I liked that the degree was essentially a combination of International Relations and Politics. Also, I liked that I would be able to choose modules from other departments in the School of Arts and Social Sciences, particularly Journalism, which City is very prestigious for.
What were the most important resources for you in helping you to make a decision?
The Applicant Day made it clear to me that this was the university for me. The prospectus was helpful also, but having a mini discussion at the Applicant Day like we would have in actual seminars really showed me what the course would be like.
What was your favourite thing about studying at City?
My favourite thing about studying at City was the people I've met, but also, the access to help from lecturers that made studying my degree that bit easier. They were always on hand and willing to help if you put in the effort to seek it.
Have you had the opportunity to do any placements or study abroad as part of your course?
I have had the opportunity to study abroad and do placements, and while these intrigued me, I chose to do a summer placement with NCS as a Senior Mentor on their programme called the Challenge. The careers events put on by City enlightened me to this prospect.
What would be your top tip for our applicants?
Be eager, determined, and always enquire. Don't be shy, this is your future, take control of it.
